Darth Bane, Orbalisk production
Drawing from my entomology college courses, I set out to redefine the anatomy of the strange insects that comprise Darth Bane's living armour. Orbalisks, are symbionts that feed on Dark Side energies. On the beast moon of Dxun, Bane allows himself to become infested with the life forms after recognizing the superior protection offered by their carapaces. I sculpted several Orbalisks in different sizes representing different instars of the animal's development.

In the image above, a sculpture is seen alongside two plaster molds. One mold has a positive "slush cast" of rigid latex laying within. While the latex is still curing, the casting is removed to prevent locking in the mold's many undercuts. Once cured the casting is trimmed. The trimmed casting is painted and given metallic highlights.
